Uses for soil

Despite being literal dirt, soil actually has many uses. This page will show you a few ways that people use soil.
Gardening
Gardening is growing food on a small scale, typically in a backyard. Gardening involves soil usage, as soil is what the food is planted in. Gardening is used to feed typically only a few people, unlike farming which is large scale food production.

Agriculture

Agriculture, also known as farming, is food production at a large scale. Here in Wisconsin we can see plenty of this. Soil is essential to farming, as without soil, the planting would be impossible.
Landscaping

Landscaping is a process where you use plants, stones, decor, and soil, in an effort to make a yard or green space look beautiful. Soil is used in the process when flowers and shrubs are planted.
